Ireland's Eye (Inis Mac Neasáin) - A small island off the coast of Ireland, near Howth

Martello Tower on Ireland's Eye (Inis Mac Neasáin)

This is another photo from the beautiful suburb of Dublin in Ireland. I took it from the Howth Harbour and it shows the picturesque island called Ireland’s Eye, or Inis Mac Neasáin in the Irish language. The structure that you see in the center of the frame is called a Martello tower. These defensive towers were built in many places in the British Empire during the 19th century. Along the Irish coast, about fifty Martello towers were built. There is also one in Howth itself.

Unfortunately, I didn’t have enough time to take a boat trip to Ireland’s Eye, because my plan was to photograph the Baily Lighthouse on the same day and then return to Dublin. Perhaps next time.
